 Phycotene is a biologically active complex, extracted from spirulina and dunaliella.

Dunaliella (Dunaliella Salina) is the red seaweed, vegetable component of plankton, one of the richest sources of microelements (including selenium), a rich natural source of carotinoids, including beta-carotene, alfa-carotene, zeaxanthin, canthaxanthin, and lutein. It contains about 100 times more carotene than in carrots. It is notable for the ideal proportion of lutein and beta-carotene (1:15), which is important for normal eyesight functional support. Dunaliella assists in strengthening the body’s immune status, and also normalizes metabolism ; it stimulates the excretion of toxic agents, radionuclides, and heavy metal salts.

Spirulina (Spirulina platensis) is a blue-green microalga, containing a combination of agents valuable for the body – amino acids, minerals and microelements, including iron, calcium, natrium, potassium, copper, magnesium, manganese, zinc, phosphorus, selenium, vitamins, carotene, nucleic and linolenic acids, and others. Spirulina is rich in natural beta-carotene and contains ten more carotinoids. They synergistically cooperate with each other, strengthening antioxidant powers. The research has shown that beta-carotene from spirulina is most effective.

There are about 600 carotinoids, five of which - beta-carotene, carotene, lycopene, lutein, and zeaxantine were found in the human blood and play an important role in health preservation, being essential nutrients for normal regeneration of body cells, eye health, and antioxidant protection for the body.

Carotinoids function as antioxidants, protecting body cells and tissues from free radicals influence. Carotinoids are “sacrificial” antioxidants. In comparison with other antioxidants carotinoid molecules are not restored and do not degrade in the process of free radicals neutralization. Carotinoid molecule is able to resist more than 20 attacks of free radicals before it breaks down. The increase of carotinoidal antioxidants in the tissue strengthens the whole line of antioxidant protection, and therefore lessens the danger of oxidation stress.

In addition, maintaining the normal condition of mucous coating of the nose and throat, carotinoids and vitamin A increase the body’s resistance to infectious catarrhal diseases for people of all ages.

In healthy people carotinoids increase visual acuity. Structural elements of carotene molecule are included in the composition of rhodopsin, which functions as a photo sensitizer and automatic regulator of eye sensitivity to light.
