 This is a vitamin of natural origin, extracted from vegetable oils, grain cultures and plant seeds.

Its name “tocopherol” originated from the Greek words “tos” –“children” and “pheros” – “birth”, an indication of the special importance of this vitamin for reproductive system.

This is a liposoluble vitamin. As liposoluble vitamins are deposited in the body, vitamin E protects them from oxidation.. It also plays an important role in protecting other fat soluble vitamins from destruction by oxygen

Vitamin E possesses antioxidant activity properties, takes part in tissue metabolism processes; it prevents erythrocytes hemolysis, capillary penetrability and fragility, testicular tubules and placenta function disorders, normalizes reproductive function; prevents from atherosclerosis development, degenerative-dystrophic changes in cardiac muscle and skeletal muscular system, it improves myocardium nutrition and contractive ability,  lowers myocardial oxygen consumption.

Great numbers of tocopherols are contained in vegetable oils, and in green parts of plants, especially in young grain sprouts. Vitamin E is unchanged when cooking, but it is destroyed when fat burns and under sun light, which should be considered when storing vegetable oils.

Vitamin E is also essential for tissue regeneration; it provides normal blood coagulability and regeneration, lowers the chance of scar formation, assists in cataract prevention; it is useful for premenstrual syndrome and fibrous breast diseases.

Vitamin E, which is also called the “youth vitamin”, is often used in cosmetology, and it is an essential ingredient of makeup preparations, as it slows down the aging process, and prevents aging pigmentation. It nourishes, moisturizes and restores the epidermis, regulates water balance of the upper skin layer, and prevents it from drying.

The body’s need for vitamin E increases as it is assimilated through disorders, from liver diseases (hepatitis, cirrhosis), the pancreatic gland and intestine diseases.

The first and the earliest sign of insufficient vitamin E intake and the excess of unsaturated fatty acids in the diet are with muscular dystrophy. Skeletal muscle dystrophy is the most universal display of vitamin E deficiency. At the same time, the destruction of vitamin A takes place; and the body faces the deficiency of 2 vitamins – A and E.
